Well I wish we were here at the Parquet were back under much better circumstances, but a week after the NBA suspended its season indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak the Celtics have now been personally affected. Marcus Smart is the first member of the Celtics organization to test positive for the COVID-19 virus. He shared this video on Twitter yesterday to let fans know he’s alright and to stress the social distancing practices being implemented around the country and the world.

Of course, all Celtics fans are worried and concerned about Smart’s health but I believe that Marcus will attack his recovery head-on with the same fiery attitude he brings to the court every night and kick the coronavirus to the curb.

This news sucks especially with how well Marcus was playing this season and then a week later his life has done a complete 180. Smart was in the midst of the best statistical season of his career averaging career highs in minutes (32.5), points per game (13.5), assist per game (4.8), field goals per game (4.5), field goals attempted per game (11.9), and free throw percentage (83.5%). He also has set new single-game highs this season against Phoneix back on January 18th. Smart went off for 37 points on 13-25 shooting including 11-22 from three-point range which were all new single-game highs for Smart. 11 threes also set the Celtics new franchise single-game record.

This season was showing exactly why Smart was worth the investment of $52 million before the start of last season. The former 6th overall pick now looks like a bargain to the Celts at that price and still has two more seasons left on his deal. Now, all we can do is send thoughts, prayers, and support Marcus’ way as he recovers from coronavirus and then watch as the young game changer gets back to work once this NBA suspension is lifted. Until then here’s a look back on that historic night just a couple months ago against Phoneix.
